Housing Choice Voucher Program “Section 8” (HUD)
The Waltham Housing Authority administers the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This federal program provides rental assistance to eligible tenants by helping them pay rent for apartments they find in the private market.
The Waltham Housing Authority participates in the Massachusetts Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Centralized Waiting List. Interested applicants may apply to the Centralized Waiting List by requesting an application from any participating housing authority or by applying online through the Massachusetts Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Centralized Waiting List.
Due to the high demand for this program, the estimated wait time is approximately 10+ years.
Federal Elderly/Disabled Public Housing Program (HUD)
The Federal Elderly/Disabled Program consists of one-bedroom units located at the following WHA communities:

Eligibility Requirements:
To qualify for this program, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
Be 62 years of age or older, or
Be disabled/handicapped, or
Be a single, income-eligible individual
Waiting Time:
The estimated waiting period for this program is approximately 1-2 years if you have local preference. The estimated waiting period for this program if you are not a local resident is 10+ years.
Applicants will be offered an apartment at the development when a vacancy becomes available when their name reaches the top of the waiting list. Applicants may not select a specific location
STATE ELDERLY & DISABLED HOUSING
State Elderly/Disabled Public Housing Program (EOHLC)
The State Elderly/Disabled Program consists of one-bedroom units located at:

Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must be:
Income eligible, and
60 years or older, or
Disabled/handicapped
Applicants will be offered an apartment at the development where a vacancy exists when their name reaches the top of the waiting list. Applicants cannot choose a specific location.

Congregate Housing
The Congregate Housing Program consists of one-bedroom units, shared bathroom for every two units and shared main kitchen and living room located at 300 South Street
Eligibility Requirements:
Income Eligible, and
60 years or older, or
Disabled/handicapped
FAMILY
State Family Public Housing Program (EOHLC)
The State Family Program consists of family units located throughout the City of Waltham. Units include:
- Two-bedroom apartments
- Three-bedroom apartments
- Four-bedroom apartments
Waiting Time:
Standard applicant wait time is approximately 7-10 years.
Applicants who qualify for emergency priority may still experience an estimated wait time of # years, due to limited turnover and availability.
